Inland Coffs Harbour Is Home To A Hidden Oasis

Scout Falls

📍 Sherwood Nature Reserve

If you’re anything like us, you’re always on the hunt for those hidden spots that make you wonder, “How is this place even real”

Scout Falls is exactly that.

Tucked away in Sherwood Nature Reserve, around 40 minutes from Coffs Harbour, this beautiful little waterfall and crystal-clear swimming hole completely exceeded our expectations.

At first, we thought we’d reached the waterfall. There’s a small cascade not far into the walk but trust us, keep going!

A little more rock scrambling and creek hopping later, the track opens up to the most incredible waterfall, surrounded by lush rainforest and one of the clearest swimming holes we’ve seen.

It honestly felt like our own little slice of paradise.

The boys absolutely loved exploring the rocks, climbing around the creek and, of course, jumping into the water. It’s the kind of place where time disappears and you suddenly realise you’ve spent hours just swimming, exploring, playing and soaking it all in.

What You Need to Know

📍 Location: Sherwood Nature Reserve

🚗 Parking: There isn’t a designated car park. Drive to the bridge and park safely where you can.

🥾 Walk: Approximately 2km return.

The walk is relatively easy but does involve some rock scrambling and crossing sections of the creek, so take your time and wear shoes with good grip. It can become slippery after rain.

💦 Best Time to Visit: We recommend heading there early in the morning.

⚠️ A Few Things to Keep in Mind

    • The track isn’t particularly well marked, so it can feel a little like a “choose your own adventure.”
    • Bring plenty of water.
    • Pack a basic first aid kit and be snake aware, especially during the warmer months. Use FAMILYFIND for 10% off Survival first aid kits! Link Here
    • Most importantly, leave no trace and take all your rubbish home so this beautiful spot stays exactly as you found it.
    • No toilet Facilities

Why We Loved It

We’ve visited a lot of waterfalls over the years, but Scout Falls has something really special about it.

It’s peaceful, adventurous without being challenging, and feels like a genuine hidden gem (with a rope swing). There’s enough exploring to keep the kids entertained, plenty of space to swim and relax, and it’s one of those places that reminds you why we love getting off the beaten track as a family.

If you’re travelling through the Coffs Coast region, we’d absolutely add Scout Falls to your itinerary. Just don’t stop at the first waterfall, be glad you kept walking!

If you visit, we’d love to see your adventures!

ENJOY!
